Fourth anniversary of the Olenivka attack: memorial installation unveiled in Kyiv
A permanent memorial installation commemorating the victims of the Russian terrorist attack in Olenivka has been unveiled at Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv, the Association of Azovstal Defenders’ Families announced.
The installation was unveiled to mark the fourth anniversary of the war crime committed by Russia at the former Volnovakha Correctional Colony No. 120 near occupied Olenivka. On the night of July 28–29, 2022, an explosion killed more than 50 prisoners of war from the Azov Regiment and injured more than 130 others.
Families of the fallen, military personnel, and supporters attended the ceremony. Participants honored the victims with a minute of silence and lit flares as a symbol of mourning and the ongoing fight for justice.
The memorial will remain in Mykhailivska Square as a permanent site of remembrance for the victims of the attack and a constant reminder of the need to secure the return of Ukrainian prisoners of war who remain in Russian captivity.
“We remember each and every one. We demand justice. We fight to bring all our defenders home,” the Association of Azovstal Defenders’ Families stated.
